Dog Visits
We love’em; we know you love’em; that’s why we allow’em, which few do. We don’t even charge extra, like we wouldn’t for a baby. However, bringing your canine family member to Six Crows House does come with a price: RESPECT!
RUDE DOGS ARE NOT WELCOME!
We’ll get straight to the point! Rude dogs are not welcome! Most dogs are respectful, and most doggie parents follow the rules, and are welcome. We will not host dogs that are aggressive or neurotic, annoying to other guests, or destructive.
Experience has taught us to lead with our “sorry, but no” sniff test. Six Crows is a retreat house with guests coming and going and regularly interacting. We strive to provide a pleasant stay and welcome respite from day to day life. You can appreciate that a disruptive dog is not conducive to our mission.
Sorry, but no if your dog:
- does not obey you;
- is not fully socialized to people and other dogs;
- does not respect people and property;
- is not housebroken;
- resists being leashed;
- is frightened of sounds coming from another room;
- barks, whines, or cries, disturbing other guests;
- climbs on furniture or people;
- expects to sleep in your bed.
We understand that the rules may be different in your home and among your family, and we’re not saying your way is wrong. We’re saying these are OUR rules, put in place to meet our obligations as a retreat house. You understand, we have to meet all guests’ standards.
If your dog passes our sniff test, she will find a friend in Dave and Linda. Please see details below specific to The Suite and The Glamp.
Dogs are welcome in both The Suite and The Glamp. You may want to choose The Glamp if you are considering bringing your canine buddy, or house him at The Glamp if you are selecting the Bubble (the entire Six Crows rental space). 75% of guests opt for The Glamp when bringing their dog to Six Crows House. The rules are more relaxed in The Glamp, and you may be too.
WHEN YOU BOOK, WE NEED TO KNOW…
- your dog’s temperament;
- that your dog is clean and 100% house broken;
- that your dog is up to date with shots, and free of disease;
- that your dog passes the sniff test.
DOGS IN THE SUITE
- Keep your dog in your assigned room, and leashed and in your control as you pass through on your way in and out. Your well-behaved dog is welcome off leash in The Suite outside your room ONLY WHEN no other guests are visiting or “home”, or if everyone present is comfortable (we know many people like dogs). Never leave your dog unattended when he is out of your private room.
- Your dog must be leashed and in your control at all times while you are on Six Crows House property. ABSOLUTELY NO FREE RANGING in the neighborhood, by local ordinance.
- Dogs peeing in the yard results in unsightly dead spots and encourages marking by other visiting dogs. Please walk your dog beyond the property, or lead her into the adjacent woods to go. If you opt for the woods, go into the woods, not just to the edge. You won’t have to worry about picking up the doo-doo. Otherwise, pick it up promptly and deposit in the outside trash bin on the patio. Our beloved Pepper, who has recently gone off to chase squirrels in her happy hunting grounds, was trained to go to the woods, and we never had to pick up behind her.
- Most of The Suite is newly carpeted and will not accommodate a dog feeding station. The covered patio is a perfectly good location for a visiting dog’s food bowl and water dish. We are willing to discuss the need for a different plan based on the season, room you are in, other guests, and other visiting canines. For example, dog dishes are acceptable in the kitchen if there are no other guests who would be inconvenienced.
- While we can’t ask your dog to remove his shoes, we do ask you to clean your dog’s paws as needed BEFORE he enters The Suite. We provide marked doggy towels under the shoe rack by the main entrance.
- ABSOLUTELY NO DOGS ON ANY FURNITURE inside The Suite or on the patio, INCLUDING BEDS. Do not bring a dog that expects to sleep with you. Besides the claw damage, it is significant work getting out dog hair, which other guests won’t appreciate. We understand many dog lovers do sleep with their dogs, especially smaller dogs. Again, we must meet all guests’ standards. We have a large doggy bed available for loan if needed, although every bedroom is carpeted.
DOGS IN THE GLAMP
- Your dog must be leashed for the trip from your vehicle to the lakeside and back. ABSOLUTELY NO FREE RANGING on Six Crows property, or in the neighborhood, by local ordinance.
- Other than sharing the watercraft on the far west side, the lakeside is exclusive to Glamp guests, so the leash rule may be relaxed here. If your dog will not wander away from your side and obeys you, she may hang out off leash once you have settled in at The Glamp. Otherwise, you must constrain her. We suggest you bring a dog check cord just in case. It will give her freedom while limiting her reach. Your dog should NEVER be left unattended while off leash.
- Feel free to feed your dog in the camp kitchen, the cabin, or outside. The warm outdoor shower is a fantastic way to get him cleaned up after a romp in the lake. Please do clean him up including paws before he goes inside. You will find marked doggy towels in the cabin.
- Try to keep your dog from “doing her business” on the west side, which is grassier and where other guests are sharing the watercraft. It’s pretty much sand from the cabin eastward, where there are endless great smells for a pooch to mark over. Be sure to stay on top of the doo doo pickup. Dispose in the outside trash can.
- ABSOLUTELY NO DOGS ON THE BEDS. We are firm on this, as stated above.
TALK TO US:
NB: NEVER plan a visit to Six Crows House with a dog without checking with us. We need to know, and other guests need to know as well.
NB: NEVER show up with more than 1 dog without advance consent. We generally cannot accommodate multiple dogs per booking. We may consider letting a family or group bring 2 dogs if they are in The Bubble (Suite and Glamp as one rental) or no one else is visiting.
Should more than 1 dog be visiting during individual room rentals, we expect “parents” to introduce “kids” in a safe manner to prevent doggie drama.
Most doggie visitors and their people have been respectful, and we all had a great time. We have also had messes, damage, disturbances, Linda was even bitten. We don’t want to discourage anyone, however you should know that if you bring a problem dog that you cannot control, you will be asked to leave or have your dog boarded. We recommend Dog Star Ranch 11 miles SW of us, or Rover, which matches you with a local home doggy day care.
